The anniversary flyover...

I have just finished watching the movie " The Dambusters", i have seen it a few times but not in a few years, it made me feel extremely proud to be British and very very thankful for all those that gave their lives in that episode of History. If you have never seen the movie you have to find it on DVD or video somewhere, its great. It was either last year or the year before that they had a fly past to commemorate the anniversary of that day, the last surviving ( i think its the last surviving flying Lancaster bomber) flew over a dam along with a spitfire and a hurricane in tribute, i wish i could have seen it, it would have been spectacular. What a way to say thank you in these modern times, it was an incredible time in history and if it wasnt for those that gave their lives we would not be here today to enjoy the things we do. So thank you, to all who served, then and now.

Snow facts....

Britain had its worst snowfall for 18 years over night, i swiped this from the Daily Mirror online newspaper i read every day!!
I get very little snow this season and my home country gets bathed in it!!! Oh well!!!

10. What was the biggest snowman ever?
The biggest snowman was built by the villagers of Bethel in Maine, USA in 2008. It was 122ft 1in tall & weighed 13,000,000lb. The eyes were 5ft wreaths.
9. How many take the day off work when it snows?
One in five people take the day off when snow is heavy, although these days, many people can opt to work from home and avoid the nightmare commute.
8. Why is London unable to function in one foot of snow?
London can’t function in deep snow because it’s such a rarity. If it happened regularly, there’d be teams of snow clearers ready at a moment’s notice.
7. When was the heaviest snowfall in the UK?
The heaviest snowfall in the UK was in 1695. It snowed every day in London for 5 weeks - and the Thames froze over. The snow didn’t fully clear till mid-April.
6. What temperature produces the perfect snowball?
0C produces the perfect snowball. The best ones are made in advance and stored for a few hours to firm them up. Dig deep for snow that’s easier to pack
5. Is it true that if you are trapped outside in the cold you should compact yourself in the snow to keep warm?
Some experts suggest burying yourself in snow for warmth, deer style, but most recommend using a snow shovel to dig a snow hole for maximum benefit.
4. Is it ever too cold to snow?
Below -30C, there is usually not enough moisture in the air for it to snow, but it is technically possible at any temperature. Snow has fallen at -41C.
3. How many water molecules in the average snowflake?
The average snowflake is made up of 180 billion molecules of water and falls at a speed of 3.1mph. The largest recorded snowflake was 15 inches wide.
2. How does grit stop snow settling?
The grit is rock salt. The salt lowers the freezing point of the snow on the road and helps it to melt. The grit component helps tyres to grip the road.
1. Why is snow white not blue?
Snow is white, not blue, because its crystalline structure reflects white light in all directions. Ice is more dense and so appears clear.

Feeding birds!

I went out to feed the birds in the back garden today, i had just gotten down to the feeder and i started getting strafed by the sparrows, it was loud!!!! There must have been 20 of the little souls in the trees!!! I was either getting yelled at for letting let run out of food or they were getting excited that there was food coming either way it was noisy and funny.

I had then walked back to the house and turned around and there was already birds eating at the feeders, in this frigid weather they need all the help they can get, i put water out too although i am sure it won't be long before the water has frozen over again. I had to get the dogs back in again as they were eating the seeds i had put down for the ground feeders. Honestly the dogs had been fed not more the 15 mins before and there they are eating bird seed!! Blooming dogs!!

So i am happy, i got my snow!! all be it a scattering its at least snow!!!! The ice Storm was not as bad as i thought it would be but I'm sure elsewhere it has been bad.

So many gone..

I am talking about Actors, in the last year we have lost so many good ones. Heath Ledger, Ricardo Montalban, Van Johnson, Paul Newman, Charlton Heston to name but a few. I think it is so wonderful though that we can put in a DVD and these people come back to life, even just for a few short hours their flames burn bright again.

I love to watch movies, especially the classics, the old black and white ones, the gangsters ones, the weepies, the musicals, my fav tv channel is TCM, i can spend hours watching the movies on it. I love the private screenings they have where they talk to the actors and ask them what it was like to work at MGM in the old days, fascinating to hear how they would work and then would visit each other at parties that where thrown by the MGM bosses. It was hard for some to be under the contract of MGM and other movies places, Bette Davis hated it, she tried so hard to get out from under it, she got crap scripts and was contracted to play the part, you would never know from watching the movie wether it was one she had wanted to play in or she had been contracted to play in, she was a consummate professional in all the movies she was in. Same with Katherine Hepburn, she i am sure hated some of the roles she had, but again you would never know it. They truly where Movie Icons, i am sure Heath Ledger had he lived would have gone on to do bigger and better things and been a bigger star than he already was.

Ugh Finally i am feeling better, i don;t think i have Blown my nose, sneezed, coughed, and swallowed so much SNOT ( yes i said snot, this is my blog and i am going to be disgusting!!!!) in years....i don't know if i had a very HEAVY cold or the flu but i have been sick for 5 days now and i am TIRED of it..... it serves me right of course, i was whining to my hubby that he hadn't kissed me in days last week cos he was sick, then the day he kisses me i come down with what he had, so it's totally my own fault. But oh i have made up for his man flu!!! i whined to him that i needed crushed ice in a tall glass with blue Gatorade and a "bendy" straw!!!! that's what he asked me for last year when he had flu!!!!!( we watch too much Frasier in this house!!!!)HEHEHEHE so of course i asked him for all the nice stuff, he went to the store to get me some medicine and i asked him for some orange juice......he went...came back.....no orange juice....then when i shuffled into the kitchen and asked for a glass of OJ he said...... oh crap i forgot it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so i wailed to him its the only thing i asked for.............poor hubby he felt so bad, offered to go back and get it but i said no, queue fit of sneezing and hacking just to make it seem worse......LOL he called me a terrible fraud and poured me a glass of water, i muttered something about choking it down.........bless him hes tried so hard to look after me and i have not made it easy, well its payback for being such a grouch when he was sick....

Love him really!!!!!!!!!!! Hes my sweetie...............Life is never dull with my pooky around!!!!!!!!!!!
