Veterans day

In Flanders Fields By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918) Canadian Army
In Flanders Fields the poppies blow Between the crosses row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.

WW1 bodies found

This report in the Daily Mirror made me cry, after all this time they find the bodies of a few of the brave....but so sad they were lying there all this time and no-one knew who they were, no family could visit a grave and put flowers on it years after the event....just to remember them and say thanks for the sacrifice.... But so nice that a funeral was held and they lie in separate graves now, but with still with their comrades.....it made me think for a few minutes and say a prayer of thanks.

Oh my!!

i was reading a blog from the BBC about Jackalope hunting, i was reading through the comments when i came across this little gem, unfortunately for me i was drinking water at the time and it went up my nose as i laughed!!

"When you come back here you can take part in our annual Haggis hunt. The season starts on the 1st April at one minute past midnight and finishes at midday 1st April. This year as a conservation measure you can only shoot clockwise mature Haggi that's those with the short legs on the right hand side. Shooting of faggots (baby haggi with only six legs) has of course been banned for some years now. In 2010 it will be the season for shooting anti clockwise animals. Good luck."

Hilarious i think!!!

Ordering water...

Now who would have thought that ordering water could be so wrought with language problems. I of course have an English Accent, i am indeed English so that would be why. There have been several times that i have tried to order a glass of water in a restaurant and have had either blank looks thrown at me or i get Beer......yes i said Beer. I went to our local Mexican place and ordered a water or so i thought and he brought me a beer, much to my husbands delight and my puzzlement. He had to order me my water...i thought why in the world would he think "water" sounded like "beer"??
Then i went to Golden Corral one day and ask for water and i get "what?" i think it was 4 times i asked until a little portugese exchange student that was serving there said i know what she wants and gave me my water, the American lady had no idea what i wanted, i was irritated by then cos this lady was being really rude by now. All i kept getting from her was "what, what do you want...." her attitude was extremely rude. Then today, i asked for lemonade, cant go wrong with that i thougjht.....sorry we dont have it.............well rats i think,i really wanted water so i asked, nope sorry we dont have that, what says i you dont have water??????? what place i am thinking to myself doesnt have water?????????? So i looked at her and i said, you dont have water?, so she looks at me and my hubby says in his wonderful american drawl......"warder."....... oh says the lady all smiles "warder"!!!!! yes i said exactly...by then he and she are giggling all over the place and i want to cry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh i just love the way you speak says she.....i could listen to that all day.... and her am i thinking yes but i wont get fed!!!! So i tell my darling hubby from now on HE orders my drinks!!!!!!!!!!

I love you Americans, you brighten my day!!!

Fresh air!

I have one of those Air purifiers, when i got up this morning i noticed it smells really fresh in the house, i mean REALLY fresh, i think my allergies would be far worse if i didn't have it. I have 3 cats and you wouldn't know it, i keep the cat box really clean but i think in some houses you can still smell cats, but nope not in this house!! I found beanie, lounging in the sun this morning, he had crawled behind my vertical blinds and was snoozing in the sun!! so i opened the front door and put the catch on the storm door and let him snooze in a bigger patch of sun,. he is a sun bathing fool!! he loves the sun! When we lived in a diff house i had a table in the dinning room and it got the sun all afternoon there was many a time i caught him lolling on the table in the full glare and heat of the midday sun fast asleep stretched out so i took a pic of him and scrap booked it.

Been a very stressful day, i have issues with my bank, also issues with someone who will remain nameless but never the less causes undue stress to others and to me. Such a jerk and a control freak. Is not happy unless they are in control of what people do. So i took it to God, i am trying to do that more these days, i have a few issues that i know i need to talk to God about.
So into the weekend, we have nothing planned so it will be a nice relaxing weekend i hope, just me and the old man!!!!!!!! HEHEHEHE my sweetie that is!!!! have a good weekend all.

The anniversary flyover...

I have just finished watching the movie " The Dambusters", i have seen it a few times but not in a few years, it made me feel extremely proud to be British and very very thankful for all those that gave their lives in that episode of History. If you have never seen the movie you have to find it on DVD or video somewhere, its great. It was either last year or the year before that they had a fly past to commemorate the anniversary of that day, the last surviving ( i think its the last surviving flying Lancaster bomber) flew over a dam along with a spitfire and a hurricane in tribute, i wish i could have seen it, it would have been spectacular. What a way to say thank you in these modern times, it was an incredible time in history and if it wasnt for those that gave their lives we would not be here today to enjoy the things we do. So thank you, to all who served, then and now.

Snow facts....

Britain had its worst snowfall for 18 years over night, i swiped this from the Daily Mirror online newspaper i read every day!!
I get very little snow this season and my home country gets bathed in it!!! Oh well!!!

10. What was the biggest snowman ever?
The biggest snowman was built by the villagers of Bethel in Maine, USA in 2008. It was 122ft 1in tall & weighed 13,000,000lb. The eyes were 5ft wreaths.
9. How many take the day off work when it snows?
One in five people take the day off when snow is heavy, although these days, many people can opt to work from home and avoid the nightmare commute.
8. Why is London unable to function in one foot of snow?
London can’t function in deep snow because it’s such a rarity. If it happened regularly, there’d be teams of snow clearers ready at a moment’s notice.
7. When was the heaviest snowfall in the UK?
The heaviest snowfall in the UK was in 1695. It snowed every day in London for 5 weeks - and the Thames froze over. The snow didn’t fully clear till mid-April.
6. What temperature produces the perfect snowball?
0C produces the perfect snowball. The best ones are made in advance and stored for a few hours to firm them up. Dig deep for snow that’s easier to pack
5. Is it true that if you are trapped outside in the cold you should compact yourself in the snow to keep warm?
Some experts suggest burying yourself in snow for warmth, deer style, but most recommend using a snow shovel to dig a snow hole for maximum benefit.
4. Is it ever too cold to snow?
Below -30C, there is usually not enough moisture in the air for it to snow, but it is technically possible at any temperature. Snow has fallen at -41C.
3. How many water molecules in the average snowflake?
The average snowflake is made up of 180 billion molecules of water and falls at a speed of 3.1mph. The largest recorded snowflake was 15 inches wide.
2. How does grit stop snow settling?
The grit is rock salt. The salt lowers the freezing point of the snow on the road and helps it to melt. The grit component helps tyres to grip the road.
1. Why is snow white not blue?
Snow is white, not blue, because its crystalline structure reflects white light in all directions. Ice is more dense and so appears clear.

Feeding birds!

I went out to feed the birds in the back garden today, i had just gotten down to the feeder and i started getting strafed by the sparrows, it was loud!!!! There must have been 20 of the little souls in the trees!!! I was either getting yelled at for letting let run out of food or they were getting excited that there was food coming either way it was noisy and funny.

I had then walked back to the house and turned around and there was already birds eating at the feeders, in this frigid weather they need all the help they can get, i put water out too although i am sure it won't be long before the water has frozen over again. I had to get the dogs back in again as they were eating the seeds i had put down for the ground feeders. Honestly the dogs had been fed not more the 15 mins before and there they are eating bird seed!! Blooming dogs!!

So i am happy, i got my snow!! all be it a scattering its at least snow!!!! The ice Storm was not as bad as i thought it would be but I'm sure elsewhere it has been bad.

So many gone..

I am talking about Actors, in the last year we have lost so many good ones. Heath Ledger, Ricardo Montalban, Van Johnson, Paul Newman, Charlton Heston to name but a few. I think it is so wonderful though that we can put in a DVD and these people come back to life, even just for a few short hours their flames burn bright again.

I love to watch movies, especially the classics, the old black and white ones, the gangsters ones, the weepies, the musicals, my fav tv channel is TCM, i can spend hours watching the movies on it. I love the private screenings they have where they talk to the actors and ask them what it was like to work at MGM in the old days, fascinating to hear how they would work and then would visit each other at parties that where thrown by the MGM bosses. It was hard for some to be under the contract of MGM and other movies places, Bette Davis hated it, she tried so hard to get out from under it, she got crap scripts and was contracted to play the part, you would never know from watching the movie wether it was one she had wanted to play in or she had been contracted to play in, she was a consummate professional in all the movies she was in. Same with Katherine Hepburn, she i am sure hated some of the roles she had, but again you would never know it. They truly where Movie Icons, i am sure Heath Ledger had he lived would have gone on to do bigger and better things and been a bigger star than he already was.

Ugh Finally i am feeling better, i don;t think i have Blown my nose, sneezed, coughed, and swallowed so much SNOT ( yes i said snot, this is my blog and i am going to be disgusting!!!!) in years....i don't know if i had a very HEAVY cold or the flu but i have been sick for 5 days now and i am TIRED of it..... it serves me right of course, i was whining to my hubby that he hadn't kissed me in days last week cos he was sick, then the day he kisses me i come down with what he had, so it's totally my own fault. But oh i have made up for his man flu!!! i whined to him that i needed crushed ice in a tall glass with blue Gatorade and a "bendy" straw!!!! that's what he asked me for last year when he had flu!!!!!( we watch too much Frasier in this house!!!!)HEHEHEHE so of course i asked him for all the nice stuff, he went to the store to get me some medicine and i asked him for some orange juice......he went...came back.....no orange juice....then when i shuffled into the kitchen and asked for a glass of OJ he said...... oh crap i forgot it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so i wailed to him its the only thing i asked for.............poor hubby he felt so bad, offered to go back and get it but i said no, queue fit of sneezing and hacking just to make it seem worse......LOL he called me a terrible fraud and poured me a glass of water, i muttered something about choking it down.........bless him hes tried so hard to look after me and i have not made it easy, well its payback for being such a grouch when he was sick....

Love him really!!!!!!!!!!! Hes my sweetie...............Life is never dull with my pooky around!!!!!!!!!!!

Randomness..

I had to go to the Dentist on Weds, practically made myself ill over it, all i was doing was having a clean!!!! I am so the biggest coward EVER when it comes to the Dentist. I was sitting there in the office, he has 6 alcove thingys and we all sit there and wait our turns, i get my teeth cleaned, not too much bother until she hit a nerve type bit, made me jump, she said i have a little receding going on there. I felt bad that i jumped and scared her, but it hurt!! She wants the dentist to come and look at my partial, its rubbing a little, so i sit there and wait.......and i hear..........................THE DRILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL....................arghhhhhhhhhhh i was almost out of that chair and gone but i calmed down and told myself its not for you, it's not for you, its for that poor sap sitting in that chair over there....................oh but it was all i could do to sit there and not move, not run for the hills!. Ugh that noise just make me want to be ill, i hate it, makes me go cold even now thinking of it!!! I always worry that when I'm in the dentist's chair that he will say oh yes you need that doing now and he will have me trapped and i won't be able to get away and I'll have to sit there and have needles poked in my mouth and all that goes with it..............ugh.

But i have to say, my dentist chap is very good, he treats me with kindness and sympathy, is very good to me, so much so i went back after he did my root canal, he would stop and ask if i could feel anything and if i did he numbed me up some more so that i couldn't feel it. Of course it helped that i was sky high on two little pills that had me feeling that i could float away on clouds. Bu ti didn't feel anything at all, i also had the happy gas, i didn't quite go to sleep but it was close!. When i got home after it, i slept for a little while, but i found i did not need the painkillers he gave me, and it was bliss not to have the constant pain that my tooth had been giving me,i felt like a new woman!! I had sat and done the crossword too, until i checked it the next day............not one word made any sense!!!!!!!!! it obviously had to me whilst i was doing it but when i looked at it the next day it was complete nonsense, note to self here, "do not try to do crossword when you are still pie eyed from happy pills....."

So i don't have to go back now until July, praise god!! great dentist and no offense but i hate dentists!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (( but he really is very good!!!))

Hubby is better, thankfully, i don;t think he would have seen the weekend if he hadn't been getting better, he was bummed last night when OU lost against Florida, and if i hear Tim Tebow's name once more in the context that he's the best college footballer ever I'm going to throw something, it takes a TEAM people to play, not one person.I really do not know that much about football ( coming from Britain football to me is played with a round ball, on a pitch!! Hence the pic of David Beckham!!) but i do know that it takes a whole team to play the game, but listening to the commentators last night Tim was the only guy on the whole field!!!! OU are still #1 though, i don't care what anyone says, we just didn't have it right on the night, any other night we would have been on top form, but last night is the night that counted!! So congrats and raspberries to Florida, and commiserations to Bob Stoops and OU but we still love ya!!!!!!

Man flu...

My darling has man flu........do i really need to add anything else to that? If i haven't strangled him before the end of today he will be lucky. He has turned into this grouchy, miserable,whining........... thing. So not like him at all, i don't think i like this man flu man, can i have my old one back please??

It's cold here and we have not had a lick of snow at all so far, i am miserable, i want some snow, at least a little we have it every year, I'm not asking for a huge deluge, just enough to make it look pretty so i can take some pictures!!!!!! It's been snowing back home in the UK, but we have not had anything, OK maybe the odd flake in the wind but that's all. I need some snow people!!!!!! i watch the news avidly thinking my weatherman Dan will take pity on me and forecast some, but no, it's going to warm up here later this week, so no chance there!!!!!!! Oh well, at least i can get outside and escape the whining man!!!!!!!!!!!

Started New Year..

With a workout this morning, i REALLY did not want to crawl out of my nice warm bed to go shiver in the living room and workout, but i knew i wanted to start the New Year off right so i did, i did an hour on the treadmill, and 30 Min's of weights and crunches etc..... boy was i tired afterwards, and i didn't really stay up late last night, i saw the Year in with my beloved and we went to bed at like 12.45am. But i was on a high anyway as we measured me yesterday, i have dropped 2 dress sizes!!!!!!!!! the weight might be very slow but the sizing is fast!!!!!!!!! I knew my clothes where fitting better so it has just spurred me on to do better..... so hence the reason i was up and at em!!!!!!! it's working so I'm going to continue with what I've been doing and throwing in the odd surprise or two to wake my body up and not let it get complacent!!!!!!! So watch this space!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also have my furry companion Hagar, he sits on the wall next to the treadmill trying to figure out if he can jump on my shoulders or not!! I swear he is the worst lurker ever, i get the odd paw on my arm as it comes back when I'm running, almost as if to say ' Keep it up mum I'm watching you!!!"we spar as well, he's a good little boxer!!!!!!! Shame he's the worlds worst cat!!!!!!!!!! Love him anyway!!!!!!!!!
