Ice Storm 2007

This is the picture i send to KJRH and they used it!!!!!!! i was famous for 3 seconds!!!

We have been hammered and hammered hard, when i look outside it's just so sad, all around all you can see are snapped of tree branches. I hate to say it looks like a war zone but it does, you see the trees encased in ice and in amongst all that you see the raw yellowy orange of the wood where the branch has been snapped in two or off from the base of the tree.Trees that were once tall and elegant are now broken and only fit for the fire. I haven't seen a single bird yet, might be because it is chucking it down with rain right now and any self respecting bird is hidden in some hidey hole keeping dry. We drove around a little yesterday, it was awful, cars that where parked by their owners by the side of the road had huge branches on top of them. When you stood outside yesterday and listened all you could hear was a "pop" and a "crack" and you heard the branch fall, when i was taking pictures i saw at least 3 branches go down. Also yesterday the sound of sirens filled the air, i live right behind a fire station and i swear they were called out every 15 min's, i bet they are all worn out today. So many people are without power, i think we were extremley lucky that ours didn't go off, it did once or twice and flickered a little ok a lot, but it managed to stay on thankfully. I feel sorry for those that have very small babies and no power and those that live in rural parts. Not much fun living in the country and you only have elecricity as your power and heat source. Some lucky folks will have a propane heater or a log fire so at least they can keep warm, and heck there will be plenty of firewood to keep them warm once it's thawed out and dried out.
So if you have no power i feel for you, if you have lost every tree you possessed i feel for you,it has been one heck of a storm, and it's still raining!!

My tree in the back garden has broken in two, half is ok the other half is lying at an odd angle. There is going to have to be a massive clean up operation and i mean massive, they are already out there repairing power lines and getting generators to places of need but it's all going to take time. Half of my town is without power, half is ok.

Look what i have!!!!!!!!

Oh looky here, i have a new cell phone, i have been wanting one for a while but i knew i didn't need one with a monthly plan as i wouldn't use that many mins to warrant a 49.99 plan or something else as utterly ridiculous.SOoooooo on Black Friday my hubby took me to best buy and we looked at the pay as you go phones and i found this little beauty!!! it's a virgin Mobile Super Slice and don;t you just love the colour??!!! I love it, it is so slim and fits great in my pocket or purse. I got a 30 dollar top-up card and it gave me 30 mins plus i got extra mins with it, not many though, just enough to start your phone up.BUT the great thing about virgin is you can log into their website and earn extra bonus mins.....all you have to do is rate a few ads....how cool!!!! It has Bluetooth so if ever i decide to get more savvy and get it to work then i am good to go!!!!! the only thing i would have liked is a little case... i just don't want it getting scratched, i am a little concerned when i put it in my purse ( i have so much crap in my purse for one thing)I just don;t want it getting a mark on it as it is so pretty!!!!!!!!!! Love it, my new fav thing to borrow a line from Oprah!!!

R.I.P Flower

Poor little flower, I watched Meerkat manor last night and was crying, poor little flower got bitten by a Cobra and died. She was protecting what she loved most in her little animal life her pups.It was so stinking sad i was boo hooing, just another reason to hate snakes in my opinion.I logged on to the Animal Planet discussion with the producer of the show and he said she actually died on January the 27th 2007.They recovered her body and buried her in a marked grave.Poor little Flower, Meerkat Manor is so addictive, you just have to watch, they are only about 12 inches high and weigh about 3lbs but they are so cute! I love the way the sit up when they are sensing danger and the way they all band together as a family when danger is present. They "mob" snakes to get them to leave them alone but occasionally they get bitten and this is what happened to Flower, the snake was in her burrow and her pup's where in there, so in she went, when she came out he next morning, she had a swollen face and in less than 48 hours she was dead. She was 6 years old which they said was a good age for a dominate female, so she had a good life i guess, nature is so cruel sometimes.
So next weeks episode is going to be interesting, who will be the dominate female now? and what will Zaphod her partner do now? he may well have to leave the group as they are all his children.Tune in to find out!

An Obituary

Found this on another website.....
__________________________________________________________________________ Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: Knowing when to come in out of the rain; Why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn't always fair; and Maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies: don't spend more than you can earn and Reliable Strategies: adults, not children, are in charge. His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they, themselves, had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Tylenol, sun lotion or a band-aid to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by his 3 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, Someone Else Is To Blame, and I'm A Victim. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, share this with someone.

Great movie, i really enjoyed it and it was nice to see so many people out at the movies to see a western again. The story is much along the lines of the original starring Glenn Ford, but there is the odd twist and turn. Ben Foster is great as a baddie, oh i so wanted him to get shot!!!!!!! Christian bale was very good as was Russell Crowe, although as a baddie i would have liked to have seen Russell a bit nastier! All in all a good yarn, i prefer the original but then i always like the original movies. Sometimes you need to leave the original alone, case in point get Carter and Alfie, oh my gosh what where people thinking when they re-made these?????? i mean you CANNOT get any better than Micheal Caine in these two roles, and Alfie just didn't have the impact as it did back in the 60's.Also not so sure about Sleuth, it was great when Laurence Olivier and Micheal Caine did it back in the 70's, just not so sure that Jude Law can pull it off even with Micheal Caine in the role that Laurence Oliver had.I saw a trailer of it yesterday and I'm just not sure about it. Watch this space as they say!! But go see 3:10 to Yuma it was very good.

Anon....

To the person that posted an Anon comment about me needing more UV education........did you not read the bit i added from medicinenet.com??............it says to limit your time on tanning beds and other artificial sources, you obviously haven't lived with anyone that has/had skin cancer, believe me my friend its scary. If you want to go tan then by all means do so, just limit yourself, i personally know a few people that go 4 times a week and more, they love it. they themselves admit that they can't do without it, they have to have that bronzed look, and the darker they are the better as far as they are concerned. Healthy sun is GOOD for you, just don't lie in it for hours and hours and expect not to suffer from it.We all need sunlight, its provides vitamin D, helps SAD ( seasonal affective disorder, which i might add i have!!!) and a whole host of other benefits....... I'm trying to avoid Melanoma, cos I've seen them cut skin off because of it...makes me shudder!!!!!!!!!!

Skin Cancer

My sweet Hubby has had yet another mole removed because it was showing signs of bad cells.he had one removed from his head last year that was definitely melanoma, he had 17 stitches in that one, the one the other day was not nearly so bad.The one on his head they did a biopsy there and then and kept coming back to take more skin off, they like to take a wide margin so that they get all the bad cells. Afterwards i told him he would be great to scare the kids at Halloween, all we needed to do was paint his scar black and put little lines across it!!!! But seriously, it makes me SO mad when i hear of people going to tanning salons...............do these people not know what it does to your skin??? you are in affect cooking your skin. The need to get the perfect tan is ridiculous, your skin is dying when you tan,why do you think when you get sunburn that your skin peels???? it's because it is dead people.I embrace my white, pale, milk bottle look, you wont get me anywhere near a tanning bed, and don't get me started on the evils of tanning beds. they are seriously bad for your health. The uv rays on those things are so much stronger than the sun so you do twice as much damage.Mark my words, if you tan on those things more than once a week, i will see you at the dermatologists office in a few years sitting next to my hubby as he goes in for check ups, only you will be having melanomas removed.
Incidentally, my hubby has these moles removed because as a child ( hes 51 now) he was out playing in the sun and got severe sun burns, the knowledge just wasn't around 50 odd years ago that the sun was bad for you, so as kids we all played for hours in the heat of the day and got lobstered, now he's paying for it.He's moley anyway but now when he goes out in the sun we cover him in sunscreen and head gear and anything else we can lay our hands on.Melanoma can be caught if early enough BUT YOU HAVE to do what you can to keep out of the sun and make sure you wear sunscreen and educate your kids early to slather their skin and keep em safe. OK lecture over!!!!!!!!!

A couple of reasons that casue melanoma ( with thanks to medicinenet.com)
Severe, blistering sunburns: People who have had at least one severe, blistering sunburn as a child or teenager are at increased risk of melanoma. Because of this, doctors advise that parents protect children's skin from the sun. Such protection may reduce the risk of melanoma later in life. Sunburns in adulthood are also a risk factor for melanoma.

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation: Experts believe that much of the worldwide increase in melanoma is related to an increase in the amount of time people spend in the sun. This disease is also more common in people who live in areas that get large amounts of UV radiation from the sun. In the United States, for example, melanoma is more common in Texas than in Minnesota, where the sun is not as strong. UV radiation from the sun causes premature aging of the skin and skin damage that can lead to melanoma. Artificial sources of UV radiation, such as sunlamps and tanning booths, also can cause skin damage and increase the risk of melanoma. Doctors encourage people to limit their exposure to natural UV radiation and to avoid artificial sources.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

If you haven't gone to see this movie yet, GO!!!!!!!!! but go see it in 3d it's awesome. We went to the Imax in Tulsa to see it, its only 20 mins worth of 3d but it was so cool!!!!!! it felt like we were there!!!The whole movie is great, they did a good job, i know there is lots missing but honestly the movie would have been 12 hours long otherwise!!!!!! As usual Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson did their bang up job's, Luna was good and of course the fab Julie Walters and of course who could forget Gary Oldman, even though i knew what was going to happen i still went .........nooooooooooooooooooo. Great movie, get out there and see it.

My sister's 50th

My eldest Sister Julie in the middle in yellow

My sister Kelly on the left with her 2 daughters, Brooke and Casey

One of my sister's turned 50 this week,we hadn't spoken in 17 years and this February we reconnected. I moved to the states in 2000 so I had a lot of things to tell her and my other sister. They both live in Scotland with their families. It was so nice to talk to them both again, to talk to my nieces and nephew to see how they have done in all these years.I wasn't able to go to her party, that made me sad but i was there in spirit. The Internet is truly a wonderful thing, not only did i meet my wonderful husband on it but it helped me track down my family. I had been trying to find them for years, posting notes on websites etc. Then in February i managed to track them down via a website that hooks up school friends, i just keyed in my nieces name and there they were. I e.mailed not knowing if it was a dead e.mail or not, you know you put your name on these things and then you forget about them!!!!!!!Only luck was with me, this e.mail was alive and kicking and that night i connected with my Oldest sisters 2 grown kids!! the next day i was able to chat on line to both of them!!! they couldn't believe it, they had all sorts of questions as did i. I also called my Brother who lives in England and told him i had tracked them down, so when he got his computer we all had a decent natter as we say back home. It's just been amazing, i know there are a lot of people out there that say the internet is a bad thing, but for me it was a truly wonderful thing to have.It has given me a lot of joy and i for one am glad it's around.

Pirates 3

My Darling took me to see Pirates 3 yesterday afternoon. I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!! oh my gosh, i had been waiting all year since 2 came out, it was well worth the wait, i didnt want it to end.I didnt think however that Keith Richards was all that great, he was ok but after all the hype i had heard about how good he was i was dissapointed. He didnt really "do" anything.Johnny Depp, what can i say, he should get an Oscar for his role but he won't because he doesnt kiss Oscar arse enough. However if there is one of the "Jack Sparrow" clones running around anywhere that needs a home, my door is open to you love!!!!!!!!Orlando Bloom and Keira do their bang up jobs, geoffrey Rush is awesome as Barbosa, it was just an all over great movie and i can't wait for 4................and there will be a 4, not in the next couple of years but you mark my words there will be a 4!!!!!!!!!!!! Watch this space as they say!!!!!!!!!!Oh and i told my Hubby that my next tattoo is goin gto be Jack Sparrows, "sparrow" he just looked at me!!!!!!!!!!!!not kidding dear, it will be happening!!!!!!!!!!

Scaredy cat....

I swear i have the most scaredy cat that ever lived, hes scared of everything, loud noises, sudden moves....now he's decided that hes scared of the dryer.........now i ask you.I have 3 cats, Beanie ( hes 7 in June) Hagar the baby, (hes 7 months old) and Cy ( short for pshyco (( and thats another story!!)) ) he's 4. Cy is the cat that the minute he hears thunder he heads for the hills, or rather the darkest corner he can find, usually the hall to our bedroom, if we are watching a movie and it has a storm in it he will stop what he doing and looks, terrified at the tv, we can't watch Open Range anymore when hes in the room, it terrifies him, and twister???..............FORGET IT.I swear the cat is a nut job, he will play with Hagar all day if we'd let him but they get so rough we have to stop them,i have to put them in the utility room at night cos i would get up in the morning to find destruction in my house. So this is when we found out that Cy hates the Dryer..........oh and the washer.........you should hear the noise when the washer is on!!!!!!!! Oh my, you would think SOMETHING was being murdered in my utility room.So now i have to do my laundry during the day so he won't freak out and my neighbours won't be coming over to see what is being murdered in my house!!!! Cy... love ya but you are a FREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Country..

This was a challenge i did for NSD, i had to journal about my country, i really enjoyed doing this challenge, it made me think about Britain and how much i miss it.

Exploding box

This is my first attempt at an exploding Box, i made this for my hubbys Valentines day.I downloaded the pics from lovingyou.com ( great site) and added a few embellies and used walnut ink for the edges.

Some of the projects i have done lately........

This one was the invitaion for Riley's first Birthday Party. I took the pic using our canon diggi camera on an overcast day, but it was nice and warm. The picture was then uploaded to Scrapbook Factory deluxe and then i added the text.Mounted on Lime green and Lilac cardstock.
This one above was for a friends birthday............ I used stickles glitter for the butterfly and the rose.

Some of the projects i have done lately.............This is for our grandaughters Riley's First birthday. My first hand at making a Tear Bear, it was so easy once i figured it out.
